Senior Technical Advisor, Health Systems & Quality
Chantelle Allen, MSc, BSN, is a Senior Technical Advisor in the Systems for Health Unit, Technical Leadership Office, Jhpiego and USAID’s flagship maternal and child survival program (MCSP). Prior to this position, Ms. Allen led the Jhpiego country office in Ghana and was responsible for determining and implementing organizational strategy and priorities. Ms. Allen is a nurse with over 15 years of field experience in public health programmatic leadership positions.
Director of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases
Ms. Curran is Jhpiego’s Director of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases and a recognized expert in the field. Her work in Africa has focused on scaling up HIV counseling and testing and voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC). She has overseen Jhpiego’s VMMC work in 11 countries. Jhpiego-supported programs have resulted in more than 1 million circumcisions as part of comprehensive HIV-prevention efforts.
Senior Director of New Initiatives and Innovations
Dr. Somesh Kumar is a public health physician with two decades of experience in policy formulation, advocacy, planning, and implementation for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and Cervical Cancer and Breast Cancer programs. His experience has been focused around increasing access to and strengthening the quality of essential public health services in underserved regions of the world. He currently serves as Jhpiego’s senior director of new initiatives and innovations.
Director of Family Planning and Reproductive Health, and Cervical Cancer Prevention (CECAP) Programs
With expertise in cervical cancer, infection prevention, sexually transmitted infections, family planning and maternal and newborn care, Dr. Lu has helped develop national reproductive health training systems in more than a dozen countries across the globe. Dr. Lu leads Jhpiego’s efforts to advocate and implement evidence-based approaches to cervical cancer prevention in low-resource settings.
Director of Advocacy and Policy
Ms. Angela Mutunga is the Director of Advocacy and Policy, at Jhpiego, currently based at Jhpiego Kenya. This new unit is created to support Jhpiego’s growing visibility and leadership in advocating for high-impact global health programs and policies at national, regional and global levels. Angela offers overall strategic leadership to the unit that works across all Jhpiego technical areas implemented in over 40
Director of Maternal Newborn Health
Dr. Lisa Noguchi is a certified nurse-midwife and infectious disease epidemiologist with over 20 years of experience in maternal newborn health, clinical research, and program implementation and leadership in the US, Asia, Africa, and Latin America and Caribbean regions.
Gladys Tetteh, MD, MPH
Dr. Tetteh has worked in malaria prevention and control for 20 years. She has experience providing technical and programmatic support to over 40 countries across many malaria intervention areas. These include malaria case management, malaria in pregnancy, seasonal malaria chemoprevention, vector control using insecticide-treated nets, monitoring and evaluation, surveillance, and operations research, including clinical drug trials. At Jhpiego, Dr. Tetteh works to ensure technical excellence across Jhpiego’s portfolio of malaria projects by providing vision, leadership and oversight for the malaria unit.
Global Director for Safe Surgery
John Varallo, MD, MPH, FACOG is Jhpiego’s Global Director for Safe Surgery, an experienced Ob/Gyn with over 20 years of clinical and surgical experience working in low-resource settings on three continents. Throughout his clinical and programmatic field experience, John has put a priority on developing and testing innovative, practical solutions to accelerate change and improve the quality and safety of surgical care.
